THE WRITE PLACE

I am so excited to welcome you to The Write Place where we will celebrate stories, play with words, practice new strategies, strengthen our confidence, build community, and feel the power in our voices. 

• What: After-school, in-person creative writing workshops and middle grade book clubs for 3rd-8th graders

• Where: All programs will meet in the back gallery at Village Wine & Coffee in Shelburne, Vermont, with a big thank you to Kevin Clayton for allowing me to rent his beautiful space!

A Few Notes:

**Please note that I am a big believer in paper. It’s old-school, I know. I read on paper. I write on paper. I believe that writing on paper gives us more flexibility and permission to play, and try, and mess up, and cross out, and return to re-envision, and all of that is so important in the work of writing. I believe notebooks should be treated as spaces for thinking and trying, full of words and jots and doodles and re-dos and neverminds and maybe-laters. Writing is not perfectly left to right, and that delete button on a keyboard can push us into a perfectionism that discourages authentic process. 

However, I do understand that some readers and writers disagree! I also understand that some readers and writers will need ipads or laptops as accommodations, and of course reach out if that’s the case! I also understand that at a certain point in drafting, typing becomes helpful and necessary, and I’ll be happy to see when writers feel it’s time to move their work to that format.

** All materials are included and available to bring home! I will have stacks of notebooks, lined and unlined looseleaf paper, pens, pencils, copies of mentor texts, etc. If you have a special notebook or writing utensil that brings you all the good-writing vibes, believe me, I get that! Please feel free to bring! If not, no worries, I’ll have some things for you to try and we’ll get those good-writing vibes.
